Taste the Sun: Freixenet Solare

We have once again partnered Henkell Freixenet to craft a brand identity for Freixenet Solare, a bold new aperitivo that marks Freixenet’s move beyond sparkling wine into one of the fastest-growing global drink categories.

Aperitivo culture is booming as drinking occasions shift from night-time to daytime; from high energy to relaxed social rituals; from a single dominant flavour to a broader, more expressive palette. With spritz cocktails dominating menus worldwide, Henkell Freixenet saw aperitivo as a natural and credible extension of the brand, pairing effortlessly with its portfolio of Mediterranean sparkling wines.

We were tasked with developing an identity and packaging design for this entirely new brand from the global sparkling wine leader. One that could enter the aperitivo category with confidence while retaining the unmistakable authority of Freixenet.

The result is Solare, a contemporary Mediterranean aperitivo crafted with 100% natural Spanish lemons and rosemary, inviting drinkers to Taste the Sun in every sense – name, design, and brand experience.

The identity is led by a distinctive Solare wordmark, set in a classic Art Deco–inspired typeface. Radiating sun rays sit behind the name, bringing warmth and uplift while referencing the golden age of cocktails, reinterpreted with Mediterranean ease.

Freixenet Solare is presented in a towering glass bottle designed to command presence on shelf. Sculpted sun rays rise through the shoulders, while bold Freixenet debossing in the glass anchors the new brand firmly in heritage, delivering both credibility and tactility. A deep blue label cuts through the vibrant yellow palette, adding balance and sophistication while reinforcing a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility.

“Our challenge was to take Freixenet somewhere new without losing the confidence and credibility the brand is known for, while allowing Solare to speak in its own voice,” comments Nick Hanson, Founder and Creative Director at Hunt Hanson. “That balance lives in the details. Mediterranean sunshine runs through the bottle vertically, flowing from cap to shoulder and down into the base. The sun symbol itself is born from Freixenet’s iconic ‘X’, weaving the new expression back into the masterbrand’s DNA.”

The wider brand world is sun-drenched and joyful. Yellow-led visuals paired with Spanish lemons and sprigs of rosemary create instant appetite appeal, while blue accents add freshness and refinement. Relaxed socialising photography codes Solare firmly for daytime occasions, positioning the brand as aspirational yet accessible, refreshing, and rooted in the Spanish Mediterranean lifestyle.

From the outset, the development of Solare was shaped hand-in-hand with consumers. Every stage of the process, from concept and naming through to packaging design and liquid development, was tested and refined to ensure the final brand resonated as strongly emotionally as it did visually. The result is not only a distinctive new identity, but an aperitivo experience consumers genuinely love to drink.

“Solare marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Freixenet,” comments Sergi Claramunt, International Marketing Innovation Director at Henkell Freixenet. “Stepping into the aperitivo category feels like a natural evolution for us, rooted in our Mediterranean heritage and expertise in shared social occasions. Solare carries the warmth of the Mediterranean sun, brought to life through a brand full of character and promise by Hunt Hanson. The result is a distinctive and elevated aperitivo experience, developed with consumers at its core. We are incredibly excited about Solare’s potential in this vibrant category.”

Freixenet Solare’s launch is supported by the Taste the Sun campaign, inspired directly by the design and brand world. A non-alcoholic variant will launch this summer, extending the Solare experience to even more occasions.
